A bill to amend the Peace Corps Act by reauthorizing the Peace Corps, providing better support for current, returning, and former volunteers, and for other purposes.

Sponsor: Sen. Robert MenĂ©ndez — D — NJ

Reauthorizes appropriations for the United States Peace Corps, suspends student loan payments and interest accrual for volunteers during term of service, but count the payments a borrower would have made during the suspension towards the number needed to be eligible for loan forgiveness, increases the minimum amount paid to volunteers for federal workers’ compensation, and extends short-term health care coverage for returning volunteers.
