Robert William Goodlatte is a Representative from Virginia. Born in Holyoke, Massachusetts in 1952, he earned his B.A. from Bates College in 1974 and his J.D., Washington and Lee University in 1977. He was a private practice lawyer, staff for United States Representative M. Caldwell Butler of Virginia from 1977-1979 and was elected as a Republican to the 103rd and to the twelve succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1993-present).
He was one of the managers appointed by the House of Representatives in 2009 to conduct the impeachment proceedings of Samuel B.
Kent, judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas, was the chair of the Committee on Agriculture (108th and 109th Congresses) and was the chair of the Committee on the Judiciary (113th-115th Congresses).
