Biography

Charles (Chip) Roy is a Representative from Texas. Born in Bethesda, MD, he earned his B.S. from the University of Virginia in 1994, his M.S. from the University of Virginia in 1995, and his J.D. from the University of Texas, Austin, in 2003. He was a banking executive and served on staff for United States Senator John Cornyn of Texas from 2002-2006. He was special assistant district attorney for the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas, and he served on staff for Governor Rick Perry of Texas. He was director of the Texas office of state-federal relations from 2011-2012 and served on staff for United States Senator Ted Cruz of Texas from 2012-2014. He was first assistant attorney general, office of the Texas attorney general, from 2014-2016. He was a professional advocate and nonprofit executive before being elected to the 116th Congress (January 3, 2019-present).
