Biography

Cynthia M Lummis is a Senator and previously Representative from Wyoming. Born in Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1954, she earned her B.S. from the University of Wyoming in 1976 and her B.A from the University of Wyoming in 1978. She also earned a J.D from University of Wyoming College of Law in 1985. Before serving in Congress, she was a rancher and private practice lawyer, as well as staff for Wyoming Governor Jim Geringer from 1994-1996. She also was a member of Wyoming state house of representatives from 1979-1983 and 1985-1993, a member of Wyoming state senate from 1993-1995, the Wyoming state treasurer from 1999-2007 and the Wyoming state lands and investment acting director from 1997-1998. She was elected as a Republican to the 111th and to the three succeeding Congresses (January 3, 2009-January 3, 2017). She was elected to the Senate to fill the seat of retiring Sen. Mike Enzi (January 3, 2021-present).
