Biography

Addison Graves (Joe) Wilson is a Representative from South Carolina. Born in Charleston, South Carolina in 1947, he earned his B.A. from Washington and Lee University in 1969 and his J.D. from the University of South Carolina in 1972. He served in the United States Army Reserve from 1972-1975 and the South Carolina Army National Guard from 1975-2003. He was also a private practice lawyer, deputy general counsel for the United States Department of Energy from 1981-1982, staff for United States Senator Strom Thurmond of South Carolina, staff for United States Representative Floyd Spence of South Carolina, and a member of the South Carolina state senate from 1984-2001. He was elected as a Republican to the 107th Congress, by special election, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of United States Representative Floyd Spence, and reelected to the eight succeeding Congresses (December 18, 2001-present).
