Karen Handel was a Representative from Georgia. Born in Washington, D.C. in 1962, she attended Prince George’s County Community College and University of Maryland University College. She worked as a business executive, was staff for Governor Sonny Perdue of Georgia from 2002-2003, served as chairwoman of Fulton County (Ga.) commission from 2003-2006, and the Secretary of State of Georgia from 2007-2009. She was an unsuccessful candidate for nomination for Governor of Georgia in 2010 and an unsuccessful candidate for nomination to the United States Senate in 2014. She was elected as a Republican to the 115th Congress, by special election, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of United States Representative Tom Price. She was defeated in the 2018 general election.
