Lamar Seeligson Smith is a Representative from Texas. Born in San Antonio, Texas in 1947, he earned his B.A from Yale University in 1969 and his J.D. from Southern Methodist University School of Law in 1975. He was a journalist, private practice lawyer, a member of the Texas state house of representatives from 1981-1982, and the Bexar County, Texas commissioner from1982-1985. He was elected as a Republican to the 100th and to the fifteen succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1987-present).
He served as the chair of the Committee on Standards of Official Conduct (106th Congress), chair of the Committee on the Judiciary (112th Congress), chair of the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology (113th, 114th, 115th Congresses).
