Luis V. Gutierrez is a Representative from Illinois. He was born in Chicago on December 10, 1953.
He received his B.A. from Northeastern Illinois University in 1974. Afterwards he worked as a teacher and social worker at the Illinois state department of children and family
services, and as an administrative assistant to Chicago, Illinois' mayor’s office. He worked at the subcommittee on infrastructure from 1984-1985, and was a co-founder of West Town-26th Ward's Independent Political Organization in 1985.
He worked as an alderman in Chicago's city council from 1986-1993, and was president pro tempor from 1989-1992. He served as a delegate to the Democratic National Committee in 1984, and was elected as a Democrat to the One Hundred Third and to the
eleven succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1993-present).
