Mark Sanford was a Representative from South Carolina. Born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 1960, he earned his B.A. from Furman University in 1983 and his M.B.A. from the University of Virginia in 1988. He served in the United States Air Force reserve from 2002-2011, owned a real estate investment firm, and was a farmer. He was elected as a Republican to the 104th and to the two succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1995-January 3, 2001). He was not a candidate for reelection to the 107th Congress in 2000 and served as Governor of South Carolina from 2003-2011. He was elected as a Republican to the 113th Congress, by special election, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of United States Representative Tim Scott, and reelected to the two succeeding Congresses (May 7, 2013-2018).
