Paul Tonko is a Representative from New York. Born in Amsterdam, New York in 1949, he earned his B.S. from Clarkson University in 1971. He was a public works engineer, state transportation agency employee, a member of the Montgomery County, N.Y. board of supervisors from 1976-1983, and the chairman of the Montgomery County, N.Y. board of supervisors in 1981. He was also a member of the New York state assembly from 1983-2007 and the president of the New York state energy research and development authority from 2007-2008 before being elected as a Democrat to the 111th and to the four succeeding Congresses (January 3, 2009-present).
