Phil Gingrey was a Representative from Georgia. Born in Augusta, GA, he earned his B.S. from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1965 and his M.D. from Medical College of Georgia in 1969. He was a physician and a member of the Marietta, GA, board of education from 1993-1997. He was a member of the Georgia state senate from 1999-2002 before being elected to the 108th and to the five succeeding Congresses (January 3, 2003-January 3, 2015). He ran unsuccessfully for nomination to the United States Senate in 2014.
