Tammy Duckworth was a Representative from Illinois. She was born in Bangkok, Thailand on March 12, 1968. She received her B.A. from the University of Hawaii in 1989, and her M.A. from The George Washington University in 1992.
She also attended Northern Illinois University an has been a member of the Illinois Army National Guard from 1996-present.
She was unsuccessful candidate for election to the United States House of Representatives in 2006 before becoming director of the Illinois department of veterans affairs from 2006-2009.
She served as assistant secretary to the United States Department of Veterans Affairs from 2009-2011 and was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 2012.
She was elected as a Democrat to the One Hundred Thirteenth Congress and to the succeeding Congress (January 3, 2013-present).
