Biography

Yvette Diane Clarke is a Representative from New York. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1964, she attended Oberlin College from 1982-1986. She was a childcare specialist, staff for state senator Velmanette Montgomery from 1989-1991, the executive assistant for the New York state Workers’ Compensation Board from 1992-1993, and a youth program director. Additionally, she was a business development director, a member of the New York, N.Y. city council from 2002-2007 and an unsuccessful candidate for nomination for the 109th Congress in 2004 before being elected as a Democrat to the 110th and to the five succeeding Congresses (January 3, 2007-present).
