Brian Emanuel Schatz is a Senator from Hawaii. Born in Ann Arbor, MI, in 1972, he attended Punahou School in Honolulu, Hawaii before earning his B.A. from Pomona College in 1994. He has been a teacher; member of the Hawaii state house of representatives from 1998-2006; and CEO of Helping Hands Hawaii from 2002-2010. He also served as chairman of the Democratic Party of Hawaii from 2008-2011 and as Hawaii lieutenant governor from 2010-2012. In 2012, he was appointed to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Daniel Inouye. He was elected in 2014 in a special election.
