Harry Reid is a Senator from Nevada. Born in Searchlight, NV, in 1939, he graduated Southern Utah State College in 1959, Utah State University in 1961, and George Washington School of Law in 1964. He was a member of the United States Capitol Police Force from 1961-1964 and was admitted to the Nevada bar in 1963. He was city attorney, Henderson, NV, 1964-1966; and a member of the Nevada State assembly from 1969-1970. He was lieutenant governor from 1970-1974 and chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission from 1977-1981. He was elected to the 98th Congress in 1982 and reelected to the 99th Congress. He was elected to the United States Senate in 1986 and reelected subsequently. He chaired the Committee on Environment and Public Works (107th Congress), Select Committee on Ethics (107th Congress) and co-chaired the Senate Democratic Conference (1995-1999). He served as Democratic party whip (1999-2005) and minority leader (2005-2007; 2015-) and majority leader (2007-2015). He retired after the 114th Congress.
