Jesse Francis (Jeff) Bingaman Jr. was a Senator from New Mexico. Born in El Paso, TX, he graduated Harvard College in 1965 and Stanford Law School in 1968. He served in the United States Army Reserve from 1968-1974 and was admitted to the New Mexico bar in 1968. He was assistant New Mexico attorney general in 1969 and counsel to the State constitutional convention in 1969. He commenced private practice in 1970 and was elected New Mexico attorney general from 1979-1982. He was elected to the United States Senate in 1982 and reelected in 1988, 1994, 2000, and 2006. He served until January 3, 2013 and did not seek reelection to the Senate in 2012.
