Johnny Isakson is a Senator from Georgia. Born in Atlanta, GA, in 1944, he graduated from the University of Georgia in 1966 and served in the Georgia Air National Guard from 1966-1972. He was a member of the Georgia state general assembly from 1976-1990 and an unsuccessful candidate for election as Governor of Georgia in 1990. He served inthe Georgia state senate from 1993-1996; ran unsuccessfully for the United States Senate in 1996, chaired the Georgia board of education in 1996, and was elected to the 106th Congress by special election to fill the vacancy created when United States Representative Newt Gingrich did not take his seat in the 106th Congress. He was reelected to the two succeeding Congresses and elected to the United States Senate in 2004. He has chaired the Committee on Veterans Affairs (114th Congress), Select Committee on Ethics (114th Congress).
