Mazie Hirono is a Senator from Hawaii. Born in Fukushima, Japan, in 1947, she graduated from Kaimuki High School in Honolulu before earning her B.A. from the University of Hawaii in 1970 and her J.D. from Georgetown University in 1978. She was a member of the Hawaii state house of representatives from 1981-1994; Hawaii's lieutenant governor from 1994-2002, and elected to the 110th and two succeeding Congresses (January 3, 2007-January 3, 2013). She was elected to the United States Senate in 2012.
