Mike Johanns was a Senator from Nebraska; born in Osage, IA, he earned his B.A. from St. Mary’s College in 1971 and his J.D. from Creighton University in 1974. He practiced law and was on the Lancaster County (NE) Board of Commissioners from 1983-1987 and the Lincoln City Council from 1989-1991. He was mayor of Lincoln, NE, from 1991-1998 and governor of Nebraska from 1999-2005. He was Secretary of Agriculture in the Cabinet of President George W. Bush, 2005-2007 and was elected to the United States Senate in 2008. He served from January 3, 2009, to January 3, 2015 and did not run for reelection to the Senate in 2014.
