Biography

Charles Patrick (Pat) Roberts is a Senator from Kansas. Born in Topeka, KS, in 1936, he graduated from Holton High School in 1954 before earning his B.A. from Kansas State University in 1958. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a captain from 1958-1962; worked as a newspaper publisher in Litchfield Park, AZ, from 1962-1967; and served as an administrative assistant to United States Senator Frank Carlson from 1967-1968 and United States Congressman Keith Sebelius from 1968-1980. He was elected to the 97th and to the seven succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1981-January 2, 1997). He chaired the Committee on Agriculture (104th Congress). He was elected to the United States Senate in 1996; reelected in 2002, 2008, and again in 2014. He has chaired the Select Committee on Ethics (106h and 107th Congresses [November 9, 1999-January 3, 2001; January 20, 2001-June 6, 2001]), the Select Committee on Intelligence (108th and 109th Congresses), the Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry (114th Congress).
