To amend title 38, United States Code, to provide for extensions of the time limitations for use of entitlement under Department of Veterans Affairs educational assistance programs by reason of school closures due to emergency and other situations, and for other purposes.

Sponsor: Rep. Mikie Sherrill — D — NJ

Requires the Department of Labor to establish a new pilot program that would encourage employers to hire veterans as temporary fellows and directs the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to modernize its information technology (IT) system for processing education benefit claims. The bill also extends the time that individuals have to use education benefits under several programs administered by VA, which would prevent students from using VA education benefits at public schools that charge more than in-state tuition to students using benefits under the Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance program.
