Legislation Details

117th Congress

A bill to amend title 38, United States Code, to recognize and honor the service of individuals who served in the United States Cadet Nurse Corps during World War II, and for other purposes.

Sponsor: Sen. Elizabeth Warren — D — MA

Requires the Department of Defense (DoD) to issue an honorable discharge to people who served in the United States Cadet Nurse Corps during World War II if DoD determines their service warranted such classification. They did not receive discharges from DoD at the time because they were not considered members of the military. The bill also makes members of the Nurse Corps eligible for certain burial benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA); it would not provide other VA benefits such as disability compensation or educational assistance. Finally, the bill permits DoD to issue medals or other commendations to Corps members.
