Eric Cantor is a Representative from Virginia. Born in Richmond, Va. in 1963, he earned his B.A. from George Washington University in 1985, his J.D. from College of William and Mary in 1988 and his M.S. from Columbia University in 1989. He worked as a lawyer, small businessman and was a member of the Virginia state house of delegates from 1992-2001. He was elected as a Republican to the 107th and to the six succeeding Congresses until his resignation on August 18, 2014 (January 3, 2001-August 18, 2014). He was an unsuccessful candidate for renomination to the 114th Congress in 2014 and served as the minority whip (111th Congress) and majority leader (112th and 113th Congresses).
