James Louis Oberstar was a Representative from Minnesota. Born in Chisholm, MN, he earned his B.A. from the College of St. Thomas in 1956 and his M.A. from the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium, in 1957. He was on staff for United States Representative John Anton Blatnik of Minnesota from 1963-1974. He was administrator of the Committee on Public Works for the United States House of Representatives from 1971-1974 before being elected to the 94th and to the 17 succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1975-January 3, 2011). He ran unsuccessfully for reelection to the 112th Congress in 2010. He was chair, Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure (110th and 111th Congresses). He died on May 3, 2014.
