Biography

John Andrew Boehner was a representative from Ohio. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio on November 17, 1949, he graduated from Moeller High School in Cincinnati in 1968. He earned his B.S. from Xavier University in 1977 after serving in the United States Navy after graduating from high school. A businessman and executive, in 1981 he became a member of the Union Township, Ohio board of trustees and served as the group's president in 1984. He served as a member of the Ohio state house of representatives from 1985-1990 and was elected as a Republican to the 102nd and the 12 succeeding Congresses until his resignation on October 31, 2015 (January 3, 1991-October 31, 2015). He was House Republican Conference Chairman from 1995-1999, chair of the Committee on Education and the Workforce in the 107th through 109th Congresses, majority leader in the 109th Congress, minority leader in the 110th and 111th Congresses, and then Speaker of the House from the 112th through 114th Congresses.
