John C. Carney, Jr., is a Representative from Delaware. Born in Wilmington, DE, in 1956, he earned his A.B. from Dartmouth College in 1978 and his M.P.A. from the University of Delaware in 1987.
He was an athletic coach and also served on staff for United States Senator Joe Biden, Jr., of Delaware from 1986-1989. He was New Castle County, DE, chief administrative officer from 1989-1994 and also served on staff for Governor Thomas Carper of Delaware from 1994-1997.
He was finance secretary of Delaware from 1997-2000 and lieutenant governor of
Delaware from 2001-2009. He was elected to the 112th and to the two succeeding Congresses (January 3, 2011-present).
