John Conyers Jr. is a Representative from Michigan. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 16, 1929.
He received his LL.B. from Wayne State Law School in 1958.
He was a member of the Michigan National Guard from 1948-1950, the United States Army from 1950-1954, the United States Army Reserves from 1954-1957, and was a staffer for United States Representative John D. Dingell, Jr., of Michigan, from 1958-1961.
He was an executive board member of the American Civil Liberties Union from 1964 to present, as well as an executive board member for the NAACP from 1963 to present.
He was elected as a Democrat to the Eighty-ninth and to the twenty-five succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1965-present).
He was one of the managers appointed by the House of Representatives in 1988 to conduct the impeachment proceedings against Alcee Lamar Hastings, judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
