John L. Mica was a Representative from Florida. Born in Binghamton, N.Y., in 1943, he earned his A.A. from Miami-Dade Community College in 1965 and his B.A. from the University of
Florida in 1967.
He was a businessman and member of the Florida state house of representatives from 1977-1981. He worked on staff for United States Senator Paula F. Hawkins of Florida from 1981-1985. He was elected to the 103rd and to the eleven succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1993-present). He chaired the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure (112th Congress). He was defeated in the 2016 general election.
