Louise McIntosh Slaughter is a Representative from New York. Born Louise McIntosh in Harlan County, Kentucky in 1929, she earned her B.S. from the University of Kentucky in 1951 and her M.S. from the University of Kentucky in 1953. She was elected to the Monroe County, N.Y. legislature from 1976-1979, served as the regional coordinator for New York department of state from 1976-1979, the coordinator of the regional office of the New York lieutenant governor from 1979-1982 and the New York state assembly from 1982-1986. She was elected as a Democrat to the 100th and to the fifteen succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1987-present).
She is the former chair of the Committee on Rules (110th and 111th Congresses).
