Mary Sattler Peltola was born in Anchorage, Alaska on August 31, 1973. An enrolled member of the Orutsararmiut Traditional Native Council, she attended the University of Northern Colorado from 1991-1994, the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 1994, the University of Alaska Southeast from 1995-1997 and the University of Alaska Anchorage from 1997-1998. She is a manager of community development and sustainability, a professional advocate, and the executive director of the Kuskokwim River inter-tribal fish commission from 2017-2022. A member of the Alaska state house of representatives from 1999-2009, and member of the Bethel, AK city council, she was elected as a Democrat to the 117th Congress by special election to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Rep. Don Young (August 16, 2022-present).
