Matthew James Salmon is a Representative from Arizona. Born in Salt Lake City, UT, in 1958, he earned his B.A. from Arizona State University in 1981 and his M.P.A. from Brigham Young University in 1986.
He worked as a telecommunications executive and community affairs manager, and he was a member of the Arizona state senate from 1991-1995, serving as assistant majority leader from 1993-1995.
He was elected to the 104th and to the two succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1995-January 3, 2001). He was not a candidate for reelection to the 107th Congress in 2000 but instead ran unsuccessfully for Governor of Arizona in 2002. He was subsequently elected to the 113th and to the succeeding Congress (January 3, 2013-January 3, 2017).
