Melanie Ann Stansbury, a Representative from New Mexico, was born in Farmington, NM on January 31, 1979 and graduated from Cibola High School in Albuquerque in 1997. She earned her B.A. from Saint Mary's College of California in Moraga in 2002 and her M.S. from Cornell University in 2007. A consultant and staff member at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science from 2002-2004, she served as staff at the White House Office of Management and Budget from 2011-2015 and staff on the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources from 2015-2017. A member of the New Mexico state house of representatives from 2019-2021, she was elected as a Democrat to the One Hundred Seventeenth Congress, by special election, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of United States Representative Debra Haaland (June 1, 2021-present).
