Nick Joe Rahall II, is a Representative from West Virginia. Born in Beckley, W.Va. in 1949, he earned his A.B. from Duke University in 1971 and attended graduate school at George Washington University in 1972. He was staff for the Office of the Majority Whip in the United States Senate from 1971-1974, was a business owner and a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions in 1972 and 1976. He was elected as a Democrat to the 95th and to the eighteen succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1977-January 3, 2015). He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection to the 114th Congress in 2014 and was the chair of the Committee on Natural Resources (110th and 111th Congresses).
