Paul D. Ryan is a Representative from Wisconsin who was born in Janesville, Wisconsin on January 29, 1970. He earned his B.A. from Miami University in Ohio in 1992. Before serving in Congress he worked in the construction business, staff for United States Senator Robert Kasten of Wisconsin in 1992, a staff assistant at Empower America from 1993-1995, and staff for United States Senator Sam Brownback of Kansas from 1995-1997.
He was elected as a Republican to the 106th and to the nine succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1999-present). He was chair of the Committee on the Budget (112th-113th Congresses), the chair of the Committee on Ways and Means (114th Congress), chair of the Joint Committee on Taxation (114th Congress), the unsuccessful Republican candidate for Vice President of the United States in 2012, and Speaker of the House (114th-115th Congresses).
