Rush Holt (son of Rush D. Holt) was a Representative from New Jersey. Born in Weston, WV, in 1948, he earned his B.A. from Carleton College in 1970, his M.S. from New York University in 1974, and his Ph.D. from New York University in 1981.
He was a Congressional Science Fellow with the United States House of Representatives, Office of Representative Bob Edgar of Pennsylvania, from 1982-1983. He was also on faculty at Swarthmore College from 1980-1988, and acting chief of the Nuclear and Scientific Division, Office of Strategic Forces, United States Department of State, from 1987-1989.
He was assistant director of the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory from 1989-1997.
He was elected to the 106th and to the seven succeeding Congresses (1999-2015). He ran unsuccessfully for nomination for the United States Senate in 2013.
