Biography

Sam Farr is a Representative from California. Born in San Francisco, CA, in 1941, he earned his B.S. from Willamette University in 1963, as well as attending Santa Clara University and the Monterey Institute of International Studies.

He served in the United States Peace Corps from 1963-1965. He worked on staff in the California state assembly and was a member of the Monterey County, CA, board of supervisors from 1975-1980, serving as chair in 1979.

He was a member of the California state assembly from 1980-1993 and elected to the 103rd Congress by special election, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of United States Representative Leon Panetta. He was reelected to the eleven succeeding Congresses (June 8, 1993-January 3, 2017) and was not a candidate for reelection to the 115th Congress in 2016.
