Trey Gowdy is a Representative from South Carolina. Born in Greenville, South Carolina in 1964, he earned his B.A. from Baylor University in 1986 and his J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1989. He was a private practice lawyer, a clerk of the South Carolina Court of Appeals, a clerk for the United States District Court, the assistant U. S. attorney from 1994-2000, and the solicitor for the Seventh Judicial Circuit from 2001-2010. He was elected as a Republican to the 112th and to the three succeeding Congresses (January 3, 2011-present).
He served as the chair of the Select Committee on the Events Surrounding the 2012 Terrorist Attack in Benghazi (113th Congress).
