William Francis (Bill) Hagerty is a Senator from Tennessee who was born in Gallatin on August 14, 1959. He graduated from Madisonville North Hopkins High School in Madisonville, KY in 1977 before earning his B.A. from Vanderbilt University in 1981 and his J.D. from Vanderbilt in 1984. A management consultant and White House Fellow and staff member during the George H. W. Bush administration, he is the co-founder and managing director of a private equity investment firm. Hagerty served as commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development from 2011-2014 and was appointed U.S. Ambassador to Japan from 2017-2019 before being elected as a Republican to the United States Senate in 2020 for the term ending January 3, 2027.
