Cindy Hyde-Smith, a Senator from Mississippi was born in Brookhaven, MS on May 10, 1959. She graduated from Copiah-Lincoln Community College before earning her B.A. from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1981. A cattle farmer, she was a member of the Mississippi state senate from 2000-2012 and then the Mississippi state commissioner of agriculture and commerce from 2012-2018. She was appointed as a Republican to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Thad Cochran and took the oath of office on April 9, 2018, to serve until a special election is held on November 6, 2018, for the remainder of the term ending January 3, 2021.
