John F. (Jack) Reed is a Senator from Rhode Island. Born in Providence, RI, in 1949, he earned his B.S. from the United States Military Academy, West Point, in 1971 and his M.P.P. from the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, in 1973. He earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1982 and served in the U.S. Army from 1971-1979 and the Army Reserve from 1979-1991. He was an associate professor in the Department of Social Sciences at the U.S. Military Academy from 1977-1979 and admitted to the Washington, D.C. bar in 1983. He was a member of the Rhode Island State senate from 1985-1990 and elected to the 102nd and to the two succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1991-January 2, 1997). In 1996, he was elected to the United States Senate.
