Raphael Gamaliel Warnock, a Senator from Georgia, was born in Savannah on July 23, 1969 and graduated from Sol C. Johnson High School in 1987. He earned his B.A. in psychology from Morehouse College in 1991, and his M.Div., M.Phil., and Ph.D. from Union Theological Seminary in New York City. A Baptist pastor, he was elected as a Democrat to the United States Senate in the January 5, 2021 special election runoff for the term ending January 3, 2023, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Johnny Isakson, a seat previously held by appointed Senator Kelly Loeffler, and took the oath of office on January 20, 2021.
