Biography

Thomas Allen Coburn was a Senator and a Representative from Oklahoma. Born in Casper, WY, he graduated Oklahoma State University with his B.S. in 1970 and graduated Oklahoma State University Medical School in 1983. He was manufacturing manager, Coburn Opthalmic Division, Coburn Optical Industries, from 1970-1978. He was an intern in general surgery, St. Anthony’s Hospital and in family practice residency at the University of Arkansas. He was a physician in Muskogee, OK. He was past chair, Muskogee Regional Medical Center, and participated in medical mission trips to Haiti in 1985 and Iraq in 1992. He was elected to the 104th and to the two succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1995-January 3, 2001). He was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2004 and reelected in 2010, serving from January 3, 2005, until his resignation on January 3, 2015.
