Alcee Lamar Hastings was a Representative from Florida. Born in Altamonte Springs, FL, in 1936, he earned his B.A. from Fisk University in 1958. He attended Howard University School of Law from 1958-1960 and earned his J.D. from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in 1963.
He was a private practice lawyer, and he served as Broward County, FL, circuit court judge from 1977-1979. He was United States district judge for the Southern District of Florida from 1979-1989.
He was elected to the 103rd and to the eleven succeeding Congresses until his death (January 3, 1993-April 6, 2021).
