Biography

Alma Adams is a Representative from North Carolina. Born in High Point, North Carolina in 1946, she earned her B.S. from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in 1968, her M.S. from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in 1972, and her Ph.D. from the Ohio State University in 1981. She worked as an artist and was faculty at Bennett College from 1972-2012. She was also a member of the Greensboro, N.C. school board from 1984-1986, a member of the Greensboro, N.C. city council from 1987-1994, and a member of the North Carolina state house of representatives from 1994-2014. She was elected simultaneously as a Democrat to the 113th and 114th Congresses, by special election, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of United States Representative Melvin L. Watt. She was then elected to the 115th Congress (November 4, 2014-present).
