Charles Ellis (Chuck) Schumer is a Senator from New York. Born in Brooklyn, NY, in 1950, he earned his A.B. from Harvard University in 1971 and his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1974 before being admitted to the New York Bar in 1975. He served in the New York State assembly from 1975-1980 and was elected as a Democrat to the 97th and to the eight succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1981-January 3, 1999).
He was elected to the United States Senate in 1998. He has chaired the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (2005-2008); the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (2011-present); the Joint Economic Committee (110th and 111th Congresses), and the Committee on Rules and Administration (111th-113th Congresses).
