Deborah Ann Stabenow is a Senator from Michigan. Born in Gladwin, MI, in 1950, she earned her B.A. from Michigan State University in 1972 and her M.S.W., magna cum laude, from Michigan State University in 1975. She has been a social worker; leadership training consultant; Ingham County commissioner from 1975-1978; member, State house of representatives from 1979-1990; and member, State senate from 1991-1994. She was elected to the 105th and 106th Congresses (January 3, 1997-January 3, 2001). In 2000, she was elected to the United States Senate. She has served as Democratic Conference secretary (2005-2007); vice-chair, Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (2011-); chair, Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry (112th and 113th Congresses).
