Biography

Mary L. Landrieu was a Senator from Louisiana. Born in Arlington, VA, she graduated from Louisiana State University in 1977 and was a member of the Louisiana house of representatives from 1980-1988. She was Louisiana state treasurer from 1988-1996 and ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination in 1995 and elected to the United States Senate in 1996, and reelected in 2002 and 2008. She served from January 3, 1997, to January 3, 2015, and was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 2014. She was chair, Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship (111th-113th Congresses), and served on Committee on Energy and Natural Resources (113th Congress).
