Patrick Joseph Leahy is a Senator from Vermont. Born in Montpelier, VT, in 1940, he graduated St. Michaels College in 1961 and received J.D. from Georgetown University in 1964. He was admitted to the Vermont bar in 1964 and commenced practice in Burlington. He served as States attorney in Chittenden County, VT, from 1966-1974. He was elected to the United States Senate in 1974. He served as president pro tempore (December 17, 2012-January 3, 2015) and chaired Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry (100th-103rd Congresses); the Committee on the Judiciary (107th Congress, 110th-113th Congresses).
