Tim Scott is a Senator from South Carolina. Born in North Charleston, SC, in 1965, he earned his B.S. from Charleston Southern University in 1988. An entrepreneur, he served on the Charleston County, SC council from 1995-2008. He ran unsuccessfully for the South Carolina state senate in 1996 and was a member of the South Carolina house of representatives from 2009-2010. He was elected to the 112th Congress, and served from January 3, 2011, to January 2, 2013, when he resigned to become appointed to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Senator Jim DeMint. He was elected in 2014 in a special election.
