Biography

James Varni Panetta (son of Leon Panetta) is a Representative from California. Born in Washington, D.C. in 1969, he earned his A.A. from Monterey Peninsula College in 1989, his B.A. from University of California, Davis in 1991, and his J.D. from Santa Clara University in 1996. He served in the United States Navy Reserve from 2003-2011, was a clerk for the United States Department of State in 1992, worked as an Alameda County, California prosecutor from 1996-2010, and as the Alameda County California deputy district attorney from 1996-2010. In addition, he worked as a Monterey County, California prosecutor from 2010-2016, a Monterey County, California deputy district attorney from 2010-2016, the Monterey County, California central Democratic committee vice chairman from 2012-2016 before being elected as a Democrat to the 115th Congress (January 3, 2017-present).
